Do I pay import duty or tax on furniture and personal effects when moving to Spain from the UK?

For relocations to mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, furniture and personal effects moved as part of a genuine permanent relocation qualify for full relief from import duty and Spanish IVA under Transfer of Normal Residence rules. To qualify, your NIE must be in place, your residency documentation must confirm the relocation is genuine, and the items must have been in your ownership before the move. For Canary Islands destinations the position is different. Customs tariffs are generally avoided provided a T2LF document is in place.
