Our UK to Spain Moving Process
Survey and Quote
Your move starts with a survey confirming shipment volume, destination region, transport option, island logistics if required, and customs documentation needs including NIE status. Your fixed quote covers UK collection through to Spanish delivery including island onward transport where applicable.
Export Packing and Inventory Preparation
Export packing is completed at your UK property using materials suited to the road distance and onward handling involved in a UK to Spain move. Furniture, fragile items, and high-value belongings are wrapped and packed to the standard required for Spanish customs inventory and safe delivery at destination.
Transport and Customs Processing
For mainland and Balearic destinations, your consignment travels by road into Spain and is processed through Spanish import customs. NIE verification, residency documentation, and inventory declarations are coordinated with our Spanish partners before arrival at the border. For Canary Islands deliveries, the consignment travels to a Spanish port for Atlantic ocean freight and is processed through the islands’ own customs authority on arrival.
Delivery and Unloading in Spain
Delivery is completed by our established Spanish partner network to your address. Whether it is a city apartment in Barcelona, a villa on the Costa del Sol, a rural finca in Andalusia, or a property on one of the Spanish islands, your Trunk Logistics coordinator remains your single point of contact through to confirmed delivery.
Storage Before Your Spain Move
If your shipping date and UK move-out date do not align, or your Spanish property is not immediately ready, we provide secure storage at our own four Essex facilities. We collect from anywhere in the UK and hold your belongings until your confirmed Spain departure date. This applies equally to mainland Spain, Balearic Islands, and Canary Islands moves where sea freight schedules can add lead time between UK departure and island delivery.

Relocating To The Costa del Sol And Andalusia
Removals To The Balearic Islands
UK to Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, and Formentera removals combine road transport from your UK address to the Spanish mainland with an onward sea freight stage to your destination island. The port used for the island crossing depends on the specific destination and trip, this is confirmed at survey stage, and written into your fixed quote with no cost additions after booking.
For part load groupage moves to the Balearics, consolidation runs fortnightly. Collection to delivery for a Balearic part load move takes up to four weeks, reflecting both the consolidation cycle and the sea freight leg. If your move is time-sensitive, a dedicated vehicle removal to the Balearics is typically completed in around five days.
The sea freight stage is not arranged separately it is planned, priced, and coordinated by your Trunk Logistics move coordinator as part of the same removal, through to confirmed delivery at your island address.
Moves To The Canary Islands
Removals from the UK to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro operate under a customs and logistics framework that is fundamentally different from mainland Spain and the Balearics.
Every arriving shipment is processed as a non-EU import, requiring a DUA customs declaration and a T2LF document to confirm EU customs status for the goods. IGIC applies in place of Spanish IVA, and AIEM may apply depending on the items being moved. Full detail on Canary Islands customs requirements is set out in the customs section above.
The logistics route is road from your UK address to a Spanish port, then Atlantic ocean freight to your destination island. Average transit time for a Canary Islands delivery is around one month. Trunk Logistics manages all customs documentation and coordinates the ocean freight leg and island delivery through our established Canary Islands partner network. All seven islands are within our delivery network.

Frequently Asked Questions - UK to Spain Removals
Do I need an NIE number to move household goods to Spain from the UK?
Yes, if you are relocating permanently to Spain. The NIE is the Spanish tax identification number required for customs clearance of household goods imported as part of a residential relocation. Without it, your shipment cannot clear Spanish customs on arrival. We confirm NIE status during your survey so this is in place before your consignment departs the UK.
Can you deliver to the Balearic or Canary Islands from the UK?
Yes. Balearic Islands deliveries cover Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, and Formentera. Canary Islands deliveries cover all seven islands including Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro. Island transport is coordinated as part of your removal and included in your fixed quote. Transit times differ significantly between island groups with Balearic part load moves taking up to four weeks, dedicated moves around five days; Canary Islands deliveries average around one month. Both are confirmed at survey stage.
How long does a removal from the UK to Spain take?
Mainland part load moves typically complete in 7–14 working days. Dedicated vehicle moves to mainland destinations are generally 3–5 days. Balearic Islands part load moves take up to four weeks, with dedicated vehicle around five days. Canary Islands deliveries average around one month. Exact timelines for your specific destination are confirmed during your survey.
What is the most cost-effective option for a smaller move to Spain?
Part load groupage is the most economical choice for moves below a full vehicle load such as a one or two bedroom move, a partial household, or a single room relocation. You pay only for the space your shipment occupies. For Costa or island destinations where part load consolidation is less frequent, your coordinator will confirm realistic timelines alongside the cost comparison.
Can you collect from Scotland, Wales, or the North of England for a Spain removal?
Yes. Trunk Logistics collects from anywhere across the UK including Scotland, Wales, Northern England, the Midlands, and all areas beyond Essex and the South East. Collection logistics are confirmed during your survey and factored into your fixed door-to-door quote.
Do you handle Spanish customs paperwork or do I need a separate agent?
Customs documentation guidance is provided as part of your move planning and coordinated with our Spanish partners on the import side. You do not need to appoint a separate Spanish customs agent. Documentation requirements including NIE, residency confirmation, inventory structure, are all confirmed during your survey before packing begins.
What happens if my Spanish property purchase falls through or is delayed?
Pre-shipment storage at our secure Essex facilities is available for exactly this situation. Your belongings are collected as planned, held at our storage site, and dispatched for Spain when your purchase completes and your move-in date is confirmed. Storage is priced by volume and duration and will be confirmed during your survey alongside the removal cost.
Do I pay import duty or tax on furniture and personal effects when moving to Spain from the UK?
For relocations to mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, furniture and personal effects moved as part of a genuine permanent relocation qualify for full relief from import duty and Spanish IVA under Transfer of Normal Residence rules. To qualify, your NIE must be in place, your residency documentation must confirm the relocation is genuine, and the items must have been in your ownership before the move. These conditions are confirmed at survey stage as part of your documentation preparation.
For Canary Islands destinations the position is different. Customs tariffs are generally avoided provided a T2LF document is in place. However, IGIC and potentially AIEM apply as local taxes regardless of Transfer of Normal Residence status. The amounts involved depend on the goods being moved and are not equivalent to the full IVA rate on the mainland. Your move coordinator will confirm the applicable tax position for your specific Canary Islands destination during your survey.
