How Your UK to Ireland Move Works

Survey, Plan, and Fix Your Price

A member of our own team carries out your survey in person or by video. We confirm your shipment volume, the correct transport option (dedicated vehicle or groupage), ferry port routing based on your Irish destination, Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland customs requirements, and your required delivery window.

Export Packing and Inventory Preparation

Our own export-trained crews pack your belongings using materials rated for sea transit including heavy-duty padded blankets, lashing systems, and moisture-resistant protection for the Irish Sea crossing. The same sea-transit packing standards apply regardless of whether your move is dedicated vehicle or groupage. A customs-ready inventory is produced alongside the physical packing for Republic of Ireland moves.

Ferry Routing, Container Scheduling, and Customs Processing

Your consignment departs via the correct UK port for your Irish destination either Holyhead, Fishguard, or Liverpool depending on routing. For Republic of Ireland moves, Transfer of Normal Residence customs documentation is coordinated with our Irish partners before crossing. Northern Ireland moves do not require customs documentation. Your move coordinator confirms departure timing and ferry schedule before your moving date is fixed.

Delivery to Your Irish Or UK Address

Delivery is completed to your Irish address, a city apartment in Dublin, family home in Cork or Galway, or rural address anywhere across Ireland’s 32 counties. Your Trunk Logistics coordinator remains your named contact through to confirmed delivery. For Ireland to UK moves, delivery to your UK address follows the same process in reverse.

Storage Before Your Ireland Move or On Arrival in the UK

Because we run regular UK to Ireland and Ireland to UK departures, secure storage at our Essex facilities works in both directions. If your Irish property is not ready at your UK departure date, we collect from anywhere in the UK and hold your belongings at our Essex depot until your confirmed Irish move-in date. If you are moving from Ireland to the UK and your new UK property is not immediately ready, we collect from your Irish address, bring your belongings back to our Essex depot, and deliver to your UK address when you are ready.

For Ireland to UK moves, we collect from anywhere in Ireland including Dublin, Cork, Galway, rural addresses across all 32 counties, and deliver to any UK destination. For deliveries into London, ULEZ compliance and parking suspensions are coordinated before moving day. For deliveries into Essex, Kent, or Hertfordshire, access and timing are confirmed at survey stage. The same fixed-price, survey-led process applies in both directions.

Dedicated Vehicle and Groupage Options for Ireland Moves

We offer two distinct transport methods to match your volume and budget:

How Long Does a UK to Ireland Removal Take?

Dedicated Vehicle Transit Times to Ireland

Groupage Transit Times to Ireland

Groupage (part load) moves to Ireland typically complete within 3–7 working days depending on consolidation schedule and delivery county. We run regular Ireland-bound departures and your move coordinator will confirm the next available departure date and expected delivery window at survey stage.

Ireland to UK Transit Times

Ireland to UK moves follow the same transit profiles in reverse. Delivery to Essex, London, Kent, and Hertfordshire from Dublin and Leinster is typically 1–2 days. Deliveries to addresses beyond the South East are confirmed based on your specific UK destination.

What Your UK to Ireland Removal Costs

Dedicated Vehicle vs Groupage - How Transport Option Determines the Cost

Dedicated vehicles are priced on the full vehicle regardless of volume, the cost-proportionate option, for larger households where a fixed departure date and direct delivery matter. Groupage is priced on the cubic meterage your consignment occupies and is suited to studio, one, and two bedroom moves where the route frequency makes short transit times achievable without committing to a full vehicle.

What Your UK to Ireland Removal Quote Covers

Your move cost covers everything: UK collection by our own crew, export packing using our own materials, ferry crossing, Republic of Ireland customs documentation where applicable, and delivery to your Irish address. For Ireland to UK moves, the same scope applies in reverse. There are no hidden costs. What you are quoted after your survey is what you pay.

Republic of Ireland vs Northern Ireland - Customs and Cost Differences

Northern Ireland moves do not require customs documentation so the route is treated the same as a domestic UK move for customs purposes. Republic of Ireland moves require Transfer of Normal Residence customs documentation. Trunk Logistics prepares all Republic of Ireland documentation as part of your move, there is no additional cost for customs preparation.

Why Online Estimates Cannot Accurately Price a UK to Ireland Removal

Online quote tools cannot account for your actual volume, the dedicated vehicle vs groupage decision, ferry port routing, or whether your move involves the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland.

Trunk Logistics is registered with Move Assured, the independent consumer protection scheme for UK removal companies covering professional standards, pricing transparency, and complaints resolution. Frequently Asked Questions - UK to Ireland Removals

Yes, customs documentation. Northern Ireland is part of the UK customs territory, so moves between Great Britain and Northern Ireland do not require customs paperwork. Moves to the Republic of Ireland require Transfer of Normal Residence documentation, a UK export declaration, and an Irish import declaration through Irish Revenue. Trunk Logistics prepares both sets of documentation for Republic of Ireland moves. The rest of the process such as survey, packing, ferry routing, and delivery, is the same for both destinations.

Dedicated vehicle moves to Dublin and Leinster are typically 1–2 days door-to-door. Dedicated vehicle moves to Cork, Munster, Galway, and western Ireland are typically 2 days. Groupage moves complete in 3–7 working days depending on departure schedule and destination county. Timelines are confirmed at survey stage.

A part-load (also called groupage) service allows belongings from several clients moving along the same UK-Ireland route to travel together within a professionally managed schedule. Each move is individually prepared, protected, and documented, but transport is shared to provide flexible timing and efficient planning while maintaining the same handling standards as a dedicated vehicle relocation.

Crossing routes are selected based on your Irish destination and departure timing. Dublin and Leinster moves typically route via Holyhead. Cork and Munster moves may use Fishguard or Liverpool. Galway and the west coast use Liverpool or Holyhead depending on schedule. Northern Ireland moves route via Cairnryan or Liverpool to Belfast. The correct port is confirmed at survey stage based on your specific Irish address.

The cost depends on your shipment volume, transport option (dedicated vehicle or groupage), and Irish destination county. A studio flat move to Dublin by groupage and a four-bedroom house move to Cork by dedicated vehicle involve completely different vehicle requirements, packing scope, and ferry routing.

Yes. The Republic of Ireland is an EU member state and the UK is not, which means all household goods removals from Great Britain to the Republic of Ireland require customs documentation, specifically, a Transfer of Normal Residence declaration. Used personal effects moved as part of a genuine relocation qualify for duty-free entry provided the documentation is correctly prepared and your Irish residency intention is confirmed. Northern Ireland operates differently under the Windsor Framework. We confirm exactly what documentation is needed for your specific route and circumstances at survey stage before anything is packed or loaded. Our EU customs documentation guide covers the requirements in full.

Every quote is based on a survey that confirms your actual shipment volume, transport option, ferry routing, and access conditions at both addresses. We do not quote from online calculators or postcodes alone. Once your survey is complete and your price is given, it does not change. There are no additions at collection, no ferry surcharges added later, and no customs fees added for Republic of Ireland moves, all included in your fixed quote.

Four to six weeks is generally sufficient for most UK to Ireland moves. For groupage moves where date flexibility is acceptable, shorter notice is often achievable given the frequency of Ireland-bound departures. For dedicated vehicle moves on a fixed date, earlier booking secures the date and ferry schedule you need. Contact us by phone or WhatsApp if you need a move arranged at short notice.
