Storage for Your Move: Collected, and Delivered as Part of Your Moving Plan
Managed, 24/7 access, and collection-based storage across five Essex sites, all handled by the Trunk Logistics team
Most moves that involve storage run into problems because storage was treated as an afterthought. It is often booked separately, handled by a different company, or arranged after moving day when the pressure is already on. When storage is planned properly from the start, collection timing, storage type, and delivery scheduling are all confirmed in advance. Your items move once, into the correct facility, and are delivered when your property is ready.
This page covers the three storage options available through Trunk Logistics, which situations make storage necessary, and how storage is coordinated as part of your move plan. If you are ready to confirm your storage requirements: Book your home moving survey
- Over 1,000 managed warehouse crates, 100+ containers, and 100+ indoor rooms across five Essex sites

- Pre-shipment storage for international moves collected from anywhere across the UK
- Three storage types matched to your move: Managed warehouse, drive-up containers, or indoor self storage rooms
- Short-term gaps, long-term storage, and staged delivery all planned before moving day

Storage Options Across Five Essex Sites
Trunk Logistics operates five storage sites across Essex with over 100 drive-up containers, more than 100 indoor self storage rooms, and 1,000+ managed warehouse crates. Three different storage types are available depending on whether you need access, how long items will be stored, and what level of cost suits your move. The right option is confirmed during your survey.
Managed Warehouse Storage - Lowest Cost, No Access Required
Managed warehouse storage is the most common option for removals clients and the most cost-effective. Your items are stored in wooden crates within our large Essex warehouse, handled entirely by our own warehouse team. Because access is managed rather than self-serve, space is used efficiently, which is what keeps the cost lower than container or room-based storage.
This option suits clients who do not need to visit or access their items during the storage period and want the most cost-effective solution between moves. Over 1,000 crates are available at our warehouse facility, so capacity is not a constraint regardless of move size.
Container Storage - Drive-up, 24/7 access
Container storage is available across two Essex sites, with a third site opening May 2026, giving direct drive-up access to your stored items at any time.
Containers are available in 10ft, 20ft, and 40ft sizes, accessed via a secure entry system with no staff intervention required. This option suits clients who need regular or occasional access to their stored belongings during the storage period, or who want the reassurance of being able to get to their items directly.
Over 100 containers are available across the current two sites, with additional capacity opening shortly.
Indoor Self Storage Rooms - Secure, Climate-Stable Units
Indoor self storage rooms provide a clean, dry, internal environment for items that benefit from a more controlled storage condition. Individual rooms are available across our Essex indoor facility with 24/7 PIN access and controlled entry throughout.
This option suits clients storing items that are sensitive to temperature variation or humidity, or who want an enclosed, individually secured unit rather than a container. Over 100 rooms are available across our indoor self storage site.
How The Right Option Is Confirmed
We do not expect you to decide which storage type is correct before your survey. During the survey, we confirm whether you need access during the storage period, how long items are likely to be stored, what is being stored and whether any items have specific requirements, and what the most cost-effective setup is for your move. The storage recommendation comes from that assessment.
How Storage Is Handled As Part Of Your Move
Collection and transport to storage
Items are collected as part of your move by the Trunk Logistics crew and transported directly to the correct storage facility either warehouse, container site, or indoor unit, depending on the option confirmed during your survey. The same team handles collection and transport so there is no handover between companies and no additional handling stage between your property and the storage facility.
Secure storage based on your requirements
Items are stored in the agreed facility, protected, logged, and organised from the point of arrival. For managed warehouse storage, your items are crated and handled by our warehouse team. For container and indoor room storage, your items are secured within your allocated unit. Access during the storage period is arranged based on your chosen storage type. Managed access for warehouse storage, direct 24/7 access for container and indoor room storage.
Redelivery when your property is ready
Delivery is scheduled around your availability and property readiness, not a fixed date imposed at the start of the storage period. When you are ready, delivery is coordinated as part of your move plan and items are placed at your new address by the Trunk Logistics team, not simply unloaded at the door. If delivery needs to happen in stages as rooms become available, that is planned in advance rather than improvised on the day.
International storage - UK pre-shipment and destination country post-arrival
For clients moving overseas, storage is available at both ends of the international journey. Pre-shipment storage at our Essex facilities holds your goods securely after UK collection and before your container departure date. This service is essential when you need to vacate your UK property before your sailing schedule allows. Post-arrival storage through our IAM-certified overseas partner network holds your shipment at destination when your new property is not ready on arrival, preventing your container sitting at port and accruing demurrage charges. Both options are confirmed during your international moving survey and built into your door-to-door plan, you do not need to arrange overseas storage independently.
Professional Standards, Insurance & Memberships
At Trunk Logistics, storage is an important part of what we do. It allows us to offer a fully managed removals and logistics operation held to recognised professional standards. Our memberships and accreditations reflect the same commitment to quality, accountability, and responsible practice that applies across every service we provide.

Common Questions About Storage For House Moves
How much does storage cost for a house move?
Storage cost depends on which option is selected, how much is being stored, and how long the storage period lasts. Managed warehouse storage is the lowest-cost option because access is managed rather than self-serve. Container and indoor room storage carry a higher cost in exchange for direct access. Exact costs are confirmed during your survey based on your actual volume and storage duration.
How long can items be stored?
All three storage types are available for short-term gaps of a few days through to longer-term storage of several months or more. There is no fixed minimum or maximum period, the duration is confirmed based on your move timeline and confirmed during the survey.
Can I access my items during storage?
This depends on the storage type selected. Managed warehouse storage does not allow direct client access as items are handled by our warehouse team only. Container storage and indoor self storage rooms both provide 24/7 direct access via secure entry systems. If access is important to you, this is factored into the storage recommendation during your survey.
What happens if my move date changes after items are already in storage?
Contact your move coordinator directly. Extending or adjusting a storage period is straightforward and is one of the primary reasons storage is built into the move plan from the start. Flexibility is part of how the system works, not an exception to it.
Is storage available for international moves as well as domestic moves?
Yes, at both ends of the move. Pre-shipment storage at our Essex warehouse and container sites is available for international clients who need to vacate their UK property before their container departure date. We collect from anywhere across the UK, so your location does not affect access to pre-shipment storage at our Essex facilities. Post-arrival storage through our IAM-certified overseas partner network is available at your destination country for clients whose new property is not ready when the shipment arrives — preventing the container being held at port and accruing demurrage charges. Both options are confirmed during your international moving survey and coordinated as part of your door-to-door plan.
What if I need to add items to storage after the initial collection?
Additional collections can be arranged subject to availability. Contact your move coordinator to schedule a further collection. This is not uncommon for staged moves or downsizing situations where a second visit to a property is needed after the initial move.
